After-School Program
The After-School Program is the core program run by StreetSquash. The program has grown from serving 28 students in 1999, to serving 125-150 students annually.

Long-term Intensive Commitment
Students from our partner schools are eligible to join the StreetSquash After-School Program beginning in 7th grade. Students who have participated in the Summer Discovery Program in the summers preceding 7th grade are evaluated during that time, with additional recruiting from partner schools at the start of each school year. During the tryout period students are selected based on effort and commitment, rather than by academic or athletic performance.

StreetSquash is committed to working with each team member from the time they join in 7th grade through high school graduation, for up to 6 years.

4 Weekly Sessions
Each team member attends 4 sessions a week from September-June:

  • 2 after-school sessions
  • Literacy Project for Middle School / College Prep for High School
  • Weekend Programs - includes squash practice, cultural outings, and community service

After-School Sessions
After-school sessions are held at the West Side YMCA, the Harvard Club, Columbia University, and at our partner schools. Sessions at the West Side YMCA, the Harvard Club, and Columbia include academic tutoring and squash instruction. Students receive at least 75 minutes of tutoring and squash instruction per session.

StreetSquash focuses on developing good study habits and behavior, and intensive squash tranining. As students progress, their academic and squash commitment increases, along with opportunities available to them through the program.
