Academics

StreetSquash participants have a varying range of academic aptitude and performance. StreetSquash selects participants based on commitment and effort, rather than on performance. We look to work with students who are diligent and committed to learning and improving.

Middle School

Middle school can be a challenge for many children. For some of our students, completing homework on a regular basis is a challenge, for others the expectations are already in place.

Close attention is paid to developing math and reading skills, the fundamental requirements to pass each grade. Our volunteer base includes committed professionals who take the time at the end of their workdays to come by our study sessions, undergraduate and graduate students, recent retirees, and local high school students.

High School

In high school the academic demands increase considerably for the students. At StreetSquash they receive tutoring and guidance to help in setting goals to meet their challenges. Most students attend StreetSquash partner schools, and several students travel from different schools around Manhattan.

Tutors

In addition to our die-hard volunteers, StreetSquash employs tutors for the duration of the school year to ensure consistent high quality academic support. With our staff and volunteer base, StreetSquash students are provided with a two-to-one student-to-tutor ratio at academic sessions.
