Community Service
Community Service is one of the core components of StreetSquash’s programs. Each year StreetSquashers are required to participate in service projects throughout New York City. Through service, students develop a sense of civic responsibility and learn the value of giving back to their community.
Service Projects
StreetSquashers have served at many different sites. At the St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen, StreetSquashers have prepared and delivered meals for the homeless and elderly. StreetSquashers have weeded and planted at Sakura Park and the Riverside Valley Community Gardens. StreetSquashers also raise funds and awareness by joining in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk each fall, and AIDS Walk New York every spring.
11th Grade Service
In addition, to fulfill New York City 11th grade service commitments, many StreetSquashers have chosen to give back to the program, volunteering as tutors and coaches at middle school sessions. Not only are their serving their community, they are also providing a positive model to young StreetSquashers.
