In Summer 2010, StreetSquash is taking 14 eleventh and twelfth grade students on a ten-day service-learning trip to Nicaragua. StreetSquashers will have the opportunity to explore the social, economic, and political issues that have affected Nicaragua historically, and see first hand what struggles the Nicaraguan people face today.
Through visits to community organizations and a service project with ex-street children, the students will learn about life in the developing world. We will also make time to enjoy the beauty of the Nicaraguan outdoors and attend a music festival in the rural mountain town of Achuapa.
Our trip will be organized by ProNica, an international Quaker organization that helps the people of Nicaragua to help themselves.
The StreetSquash participants have a begun a grassroots fundraising campaign, but will need further assistance to make this experience possible.
