StreetSquash Summer Discovery
The StreetSquash Summer Discovery Program is a fun and meaningful day camp in the month of July for children from Harlem public schools. For students in the After-School Program, Summer Discovery is an extension of the program year. New students are also introduced into the StreetSquash family. Incoming 7th graders at our partner schools get a chance to try out for the school year program, along with learning how to play squash, and having a lot of fun.

Activities
In Summer Discovery the students participate in team-based activities on and off the squash court. StreetSquash staff have developed an exciting curriculum that engages students and opens their minds to the world around them through weekly themes. Each week the students take field trips to various sites and organizations across New York City. This has included environmental studies with Rocking the Boat in the Bronx, art projects at the Museo del Barrio and the Whitney Museum, marine research with the Hudson River Park Trust, and neighborhood research in Jackson Heights Queens and Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.

Summer Youth Employment
In addition to programs offered for participants, members of StreetSquash’s high school programs are employed through StreetSquash Summer Youth Employment. They take on the responsibility of assisting StreetSquash staff and leading the students through daily activities. Summer volunteers from area high schools and colleges also join in on the courts and in all activities.
